One of the more distinctive aspects of the human brain is that it is designed to recognize patterns and symbols in order to construct meaning about the world. In 2010, representatives from Scientific Learning visited the BRAIN Lab. In recognition of the high quality of service and adherence to neuroscience-based protocols, the BRAIN Lab was recognized as a National Reference site. This is recognition that only 4 other schools in the nation have been awarded.

The Brain Lab was founded in 2006 to provide language and literacy services for k-12 students attending Canyon View School. Canyon View is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or WASC.

Summer Reading and Writing Camp - 2011

The BRAIN Lab summer program was designed to improve upon the impressive results from the 2010 summer program. Instead of 2 four week sessions, it was decided to have one six week session in order to do add writing development to the curriculum. Research on literacy development has shown that students can make greater gains in overall literacy using a balanced approach to reading. One of the challenges of providing summer school services is having the resources to address a wide range of needs of the students.  The differences in abilities are due to maturity as well as educational experiences, and raw talent.  The 2010 Reading Program was designed to meet such a challenge.
